COMMENT: The Old Town Museum owns at least two original copies of this photo. Both have an additional panel to the right showing the beginning of North Main Street. The photo was definitely taken before November 1914, at which point I. R. Cutler had moved from the Bradbury Block (depicted on the right) to the so-called Hamilton block on Main Street, which is visible on the left (see Old Town Enterprise, 1914/11/14, p.8). Until the current Post Office Building was completed in 1914, this was the location of the post office for many years. Likely, the photo was taken before the fire of 1913/11/25 that caused great damage to the Cutler store and the Bradbury Block as a whole (see Old Town Enterprise, 1913/11/29, p.1). Based on the straw hats shown in the photo, the panoramic view was not created much earlier than 1913. The photo may have been taken by Old Town photographer Adelbert Frederick Orr (1872-1940) as he started to experiment with the panoramic lenses he used to great effect to document Maine's part in the mobilization effort during World War I.
